Handmade products behave a little differently than mass-produced ones. Here is what to expect, how to care for what you bought, and how we handle orders.
What makes a whipped body butter different from lotion?

Lotion is mostly water, so it absorbs fast and can leave skin dry again within a few hours. Our whipped butters are anhydrous, shea butter and plant oils whipped with air instead of water. They melt in on contact and stay on the skin longer, which is why a little goes a long way.
Are your products natural?

They are naturally inspired. The base of every formula is plant butters and oils, and we choose each ingredient for the job it does. We are honest about it rather than claiming to be 100% anything, if you have a specific sensitivity, email us and we will read you the full ingredient list for that product.
Do you offer a fragrance-free option?

Yes. Bare Moon Unscented is our fragrance-free line, the same whipped base with no fragrance added, for sensitive skin or anyone who prefers to wear their own scent.
Can I use the body butter on my face, hair, or beard?

Many customers do, and our beard care line is built on the same base. If you are prone to breakouts, patch test on your jawline first and start with a very small amount.
Is everything really made by hand?

Yes, by the two of us, in small batches, in our Baltimore studio. There is no production line and no third-party manufacturer.
How should I store my body butter?

Somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight. A bedroom shelf is better than a steamy bathroom windowsill. Keep the lid on when you are not using it.
My butter arrived soft or melted. Is it ruined?

No. Shea butter softens in heat and that is normal in summer transit. Put the closed jar in the refrigerator for about an hour and it will firm back up. The texture may be slightly denser than when it left us, but nothing about the product has gone bad.
Why does the texture change between batches?

Because it is whipped by hand in small runs, and natural butters vary by harvest. Consistency can shift slightly from batch to batch and with the season. It is a sign of a real handmade product, not a defect.
How long does a product last?

Use within 12 months of opening for best results. Because our butters and scrubs are anhydrous, they are naturally stable, but always use clean, dry hands or a small spatula to keep water out of the jar.
My sugar scrub looks separated.

Give it a stir. Sugar settles and the oil rises, especially after shipping. A quick mix with a clean spoon brings it right back.
What order should I use everything in?

Cleanse, then polish with the sugar scrub on damp skin, then nourish with the whipped butter while your skin is still slightly damp, then seal with the body oil. The butter and oil together are what make the softness last.
How often should I use the sugar scrub?

Two or three times a week is plenty for most skin. If your skin feels tight or sensitive afterward, cut back to once a week.
How much butter should I use?

Less than you think. Start with an amount the size of a small coin per limb and warm it between your palms first, it will spread much further than a lotion would.
How long until my order ships?

We make and pack everything ourselves, so orders ship within 2–4 business days. During launches and the holidays it can run a little longer, and we will tell you if it does.
Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, free standard shipping on orders over $40. You will see the progress toward it in your cart.
Can I change or cancel my order?

Email us as soon as you can. If the batch has not been packed yet we can usually still change it. Once a label is printed we cannot.
Do you do wholesale or stock in shops?

We do, in small volumes. Email us with your shop, location, and what you are interested in carrying.
